Word stretches

I got this exercise from a presentation by Eli Hinkel (see http://www.elihinkel.org/). I use it about once a semester with my level 5 or 6 students. Most of the words in the chart are from the Academic Word List. If you have lower level students, just substitute more appropriate (easier?) words. (Jim Glading)

This should definitely be done in small groups. Be sure to tell them there is no right answer. It's up to them to categorize the list. After the groups have put all the words into the six categories, suggest they compare groups.
